Public Transport Rotterdam

Rotterdam skyline

Travelling within Rotterdam by public transport is straight forward and convenient. The extensive network is operated by the city public transport company RET and connects the city’s neighbourhoods by  tram, metro, buses and ferry. If you are visiting Rotterdam, the public transport is the most convenient  way to get from A to B. Rotterdam has a very dense network of trams, buses, metro lines and even ferry connections that will take you practically anywhere in the city – or at least very close to where you want to go.

Rotterdam discount & day passes for visitors

Depending on your travel plans and the duration of your stay, there are a number of different public transport passes that are especially valuable for visitors:

    • RET day passes: Available from 1 and 2 days, with prices starting from €7.50. Only valid on trams, buses and metros operated by RET in Rotterdam.
    • Rotterdam-The Hague Region Travel Ticket: One day free travelling throughout the “Zuid-Holland” region with RET, HTM, ARRIVA, Connexxion and Veolia.

OV chip card

You can also choose to use a ‘regular’ anonymus OV-chip card like the locals do. For tourists who want to travel throughout more areas in The Netherlands , we recommend buying such an ‘anonymous’ OV-chip card. Please remember that you must always check in and out, whichever card you are using. If you want to use one of the night buses, we recommend checking the itineraries and timetables beforehand. This blue anonymous OV chip card we recommend if your stay is longer than 7 days.

On stations and/or by internet ( www.ovshop.nl ) you can buy credit/money on your OV chip card (upload it with ‘reissaldo’).
