Frequently asked questions

Good to know

What is an e-ticket?
An e-ticket is a digital public transport ticket. After you order, you receive an e-ticket code by email. Add that code in the OV-app and your QR code appears, ready to scan when you board.
Do I need a chip card to use an e-ticket?
No. An e-ticket works with the QR code on your phone, so you do not need a public transport chip card. If you would rather travel with a card, take a look at the chip card and credit.
Where can I use my e-ticket?
That depends on the ticket you choose. GVB e-tickets are for Amsterdam, HTM e-tickets for The Hague, the RET e-ticket for Rotterdam and the EBS e-ticket for Zaanstreek-Waterland. There are also e-tickets for the Amsterdam Airport Express. The product page shows exactly where your ticket is valid.
Can I also buy train tickets here?
Yes. Use the train planner to pick your stations, date and departure time, choose your class and order a single or return ticket. You receive your e-ticket by email.
How do I receive my e-ticket?
You receive an email with your e-ticket code after you order. Enter the code in the OV-app to add the ticket. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
Which e-ticket is the best choice for my trip?
Match the validity to your stay. For Amsterdam, GVB e-tickets run from 24 hours up to 168 hours (7 days). In The Hague you can choose from a 2-hour ticket up to a 3-day pass. For several regions, a chip card may suit you better.
